A marriage licence should be like your fishing licence!
Expires every year and you get a 3 day pass when you go interstate.
HI Team.
Still have not tried motor on ocean yet - WORK and weather has got in the way..
Question - What damage would I have done to my donk by not having water in the water jackets - during idle running in ocean and withe muffs on?
Smelly
Smelly next to no damage, seeing as it was idling only for a bit.
You could consider Head gaskett to be the most effected by heat, but really you didn;t have enough time to even slightly damage that.
Seeing as you replaced it, head gaskett! I would think no damage at all.

Ahoy Boys!
GREAT NEWS!
I TOOK THE BOAT OUT FOR FIRST TIME - TONIGHT - ALBEIT IN SLOPPY CRAPPY CONDITIONS.
NOW NO WARNING SIREN AND NO OVERHEATING - HEADS WERE EVEN COOL TO TOUCH - FOR ONCE!
I think we won the war and the battle guys - well done..
I took the family out as well and the Mrs got very scared and wingy when I tried to give her (the boat) a SQUIRT!
For the few seconds I did squirt, I got onto plane quickly and felt very nice...!
Otherwise, just a 5-8 knot putter for about 1hour and a stingray to catch was pretty cool!
Now, another problem has occured - now it won't idle - as soon as I turn ignition on, it propels in forward direction - even though throttle is in idle position. What to do???
WE DID IT! Many thanks for all your help brothers..
Smelly
PS - when weahter improves, I'll just take out my twin and we'll RAM it home!
Re: problem wiht idle - is it a matter of adjusting the linkage?
If so, what is the procedure?
Smelly
remember way back some time in the dark ages, you were going to take it to someone to get a carbi sync, timing idling etc.
still do that mate
after all you have been through it will be worth it now to know that all the timing etc is right.
congrats, you have done well.
cheers

Good stuff Smelly, Now put your control box in neutral, park the lever.
Then remove the cables from the gearbox selector, motor tilted down.
Then move the linkage by hand to select neatral on the gear box, spin the prop to make sure it ain't clicking.
Then adjust the cable to the exact lengh required to reach the gear box selector, Without moving the lever, adjust the cable only, then conect it up.
Now go to the control box and make sure forward, neatral and reverse can be selected.
Neatral free spin.
Forward lock up one direction and click if you turn it back wards.
Reverse, locked up in both directions.
Easy job mate, once again only play with the gear box cable. Not throttle lever cable, or ignition ladvance inkages.
When your ready mate do what blade say's get it checked out for a linc and sync.
Seems strange your motor can be started in gear.
