You need to do this, until you have perfermed this test and started the proceedure of following the path of the water from the pump up the leg and into the power head you are just chasing your tail

When I have the leg out, what should I see when I remove the water pump housing?
SHould I see the impellor rotating as I rotate the drive shaft?
If impellor is not rotating, then that's the problem - is that correct?

Why/how cut the drive end off a socket extension and put into the drill?

Yes, the impellor should be rotating.Originally Posted by Smelly
It is typically connected to the shaft by a woodruff key. You should see a slot in the centre of your impeller and a corresponding slot or flat section on the shaft.
If the key is missing, the impeller won't turn (or will turn very slowly using only friction).

If you think the water pump is assembled correctly, just turn the drive shaft with a socket and a electric drill and see if the pump does shift some water
Follow Blaze instructions

If you have a small socket set and a large drill you may be able to get the socket extension into the chuck without cuting the drive end off

The step 24 highlighted on page 28 of thread states ".....impellor engages housing..."
What is meant by this statement?
Instead of rotating the drive shaft, I rotated the housing onto the vanes to slide over...
Is this OK and should the impellor rotate if this was done (with key in slot)

hi smelly
you are just cutting the end off the socket extension to fit it in the drill.
hope you have a successful day
cheers

gee guys this is pretty hard to know what is right its a wonder smelly is not making funny noises by now or is he i just read in my johnson manual [cd] which i have just got it to work manual says always apply gasket sealing compound to both sides of new gaskets etc it also showed a numbered system for tightning cylinder head which i did not do but i did tighten ec bit by bit
when you rotate the drive shaft in a clockwise direction, the vanes of the impellar will just fold into the housing, facing the correct way
Station-rat
Wayne - can u provide this head tightening sequence please?
THanks

That will depend on which way you rotated the housing???
