The Variable Ratio Oiler is a mechanical system for mixing the 2-stroke oil with the petrol, as we all know a mechanical system will fail eventually and without warning so most people disconnect the oiler and premix the oil---much safer , but uses more oil.

Do you get any water out the pee hole when you first start the moror at the boat ramp?
And how long before the alarm goes off.

    Re: Cooling System Warning Alarm

No water comes out of the pee hole - just exhaust gas.

Now, the alarm went off about 2 mins after idle and after 5m of travel (forward throttle) - this is th eonly chance I had to test in gear..

However, water is healthily spat at from thw two exhaust ports..

Water came out of pee hole before I operated though...

THis is why I took exhaust chamber off - to check for any blockages...

How can i tell the Variable Ratio Oiler IS NOT working?

How can i tell the Variable Ratio Oiler IS working?

How do I disconnect the oiler?

If there was no oil getting through, woudl this cause overheating to occur?

Blaze - you think I shoul pull leg off again?

submerge the leg in a container of water and turn the gearbox drive shaft (splined shaft) with a 18/24volt baterry drill. You only need to have it submerged so the water pick up is covered. There is a few ways to hook a drill up to the shaft. With small shaft it can be done by putting the drill directly onto the shaft. Another way is to put the right size deep socket onto the splines and then cut the drive end off a socket extension and put into the drill.
If you can carry out this test you will get a constant flow of water at a slow speed as the pump is a displacememt type pump, this flow of water will/should be free of air bubbles.

That's what I reckon Blaze, them sensors are picking up metal only temps, and they be going off cause there be no water passing by the thermostats.
And no water be in the block to warm up them thermostats. And if theres no water they can't open, cause them poppets aren't doing there job, releasing some water, mainly cause there spring pressure is to high for the water pump to push past them at idle power settings.

Hence why Smelly put a couple of holes in them poppets, so water will get in there, get warm and then open the thermostats, and hopfully alleviate the problem.

Well that's my take on the problem.

Bad it seems a really bad design to start with, thermostats should be at the top, cause heat rises, and it will be a lot colder down the bottom. Not to mention there sitting in salty water all the time just to block things up further, looks to me like the block don't even drain.

Don't worry about the oiler just yet.
Are you sure the you put the drive key in the impellar the right way round?
We need the establish the it is indeed pumping water--first step
    Remove the leg again
Put leg in drum of water and spin the drive shaft with an electric drill and see if you have water being pumped (cover the outlet of the pump, don't drown your drill)
Put the hose up the water tube of the leg and see if you can get water out the top of motor-- second step

    Rat -

If pump no work, how/why do I observe a heathy spatter of water coming out from the exhaust ports?

How would this water get there?

Is there another form of water feed that I do not understand yet?
