Hey guys, went for a casual 450km drive from Cairns to Townsville on Fri to see some mates and fish some of the local spots. Our first destination on Friday was Palleranda about 20mins north. We arrived at low tide, bait was plentiful. With a strong run-in we liked our chances of getting a queenfish. However, the predators held out wide leaving us with very little action. Dave hooked and landed a reasonable jack at one stage on milkfish, although this would go on to be the only fish landed. The following morning we set off to the Herbert River. On arrival the river was in bad shape, too flooded . We eventually made the choice to fish Crystal creek just south. It was a good decision as a run out left us a chance to wade further downstream than can normally be expected. Crystal had obviosuly experienced less flooding than the Herbert. The fishing was allright. Jacks were numerous but their size was a bit dissapointing . Late in the trip some other species fell to our lures consisting of jungle perch and some sizable archer fish. The final hour of lure casting wasn't bad with several chop ups and hard strikes. Overall the Townville trip fell well below expectations but it was still a refreshing change and nice to catch up. Hope you like the pics.
Nice fish on the poppers mate is that crystal creek near ingam or lucinda because if it is i fished there at the start of the year and it was a nice little creek to fish with heaps of jack caught in there.
