    Borumba Toga's everywhere!!!

Went up to Borumba on Saturday and bumped into a few Ausfisher's, nice catching up for a chat.

Anyway, went right up the Yabba Arm and started flicking gold spinnerbaits and gold SP's on a beetlespin set up and when the day warmed up, then loaded up the fly rod.

We ended up landing 6 Toga's averaging the 70cm mark and 4 Bass around the 30cm mark. All toga's caught on spinnerbaits and two on fly and Bass on the beetlespins. I lost 3 Toga's that must of been very close to the metre mark, I was spewing...

These were caught early on but when the sun rose and the water temp climbed alittle, they turned off. We must of seen well over 60 Toga's (easy!) and they were all paired up, and the ones we saw, there was a smaller female partnered with BIG males. All were seen cruising the surface and when we flicked everything at them, it doesn't matter how small the flies were, they shot off.

Overall, a great day on the water and had heaps of fun sight casting, now I had practice on the bait fish, it is now 12 days to go for our Awoonga trip for the big girls!!! (Barra that is)

WB, sounds like a fantastic morning session, I can only wish I lived a little closer. What time did you hit the dam in the morning & did you see any of those things with horns that come out of the forest?
I will dream of Borumba tonight, thanks!
    cheers

I have always found 1/4 oz green spinnerbaits very effective on the toga's there in the past. A slider rigged bettle spin would be 2nd most efffective. Its one thing to hook them but landing these fish is another. Am yet to get one on a popper.

Sounds like a great session Woolybugger. I used to get a lot of togas at corroboree N.T on trolled/cast spearheads/terminators and little lucifers to the lillie pads as well.

    Toppy,

By the time we pulled ourselves away from gass bagging to other fellow Ausfishers, we didn't really start fishing until around 6.30 - 7.00am. We did see quite a few of the feral deer in one of the bays in Eagles Nest, I was daydreaming of the good old days when we used to hunt them with a sniper rifle and my brother-in-laws pigs dogs with my trusty knife as a side arm (Not any more, too much fishing to do!)

    TT,

Only 11 days too go, for Awoonga!!!!!!!!

How did you go up at McDonald?
