Hey mate I should of explained it better ….. You get 2 Mussels and hit them together and the shell will brake on one, alternatively you can hit up against a rock or something hard, Get the mussel from inside the busted shell, Be careful as the smashed shell can be quite sharp, Part of the Mussel is hard and is a darker colour than the soft part…. Thread the hook thru the hard bit leaving the hook well exposed or cover the end bit with the soft part of the Mussel. You can use more than one Mussel per hook depending on hook or bait size etc, 1/0 to 3/0 is a good sized hook for Catfish, Bass etc. But a smaller hook can be used if you’re getting bites from smaller stuff! Hook size can go bigger if chasing larger fish like Murray Cod. You can leave some of the broken bits of shell on the fleshy bit if you want as this won’t affect the catch rate at all. Try rigging it with a running sinker for a while if that don’t work try it unweighted so it’s suspended somewhere in the weeds.
Cheers Les

can't use grasshoppers, moths or road kill as bait anymore. sounds like someone in the public service has shares in lure companies

Well I got onto the DPI, their resonse was "Not our juristiction, NP BigW and somerset and surrounding lands are controled by SEQ Water"
OK, called SEQ Water, got a call yesterday from a bloke there, his response was "It's ok to catch insects, or water life to use as bait (excluding noxious species of course) so long as you do not remove them from the site or do so on a commercial basis."
