Thread: This is my first yellow belly!

Re: This is my first yellow belly!

Looks like what the Pommes call a Mirror Carp, I have caught bucket loads of them over there over the 20lb mark and they go a hell of a lot bigger, especially over in Europe. They actually use whole potatoes as bait.

    Great catch though, well done!!!

Wasnt really looking at the fish as such, more or less the scenary in the picture, and I know of no place around the dam that looks like that. But yes it does look like a Carp now that I look at it.

They did release GP into Tinaroo awile back as a another test trial, which once again failed like most of the others they have tried.

No way thats a Yellobelly, Damn carp have ruined a lot of the inland streams and rivers.... I hope you chucked it up the bank after you caught it!!!

I'm surprised of the amount of people on here that were tricked into thinkling it was a Yellobelly!!!

yep it a carp, and if you head out west to some of the less fished rivers you will find them everywhere, and in some cases, find them on the surface of the river in there 100's taking in mouth fulls of air. they can also grow much bigger then that.

my grandfathers pigs used to love it when we throw them over the fence for them to eat.

Yeah Brenno, another example of European knowitall attitude stuffin' up this environment. >

Virtually everything that has been introduced into this land, from another country, has had a negative effect. Why we smart, inteligent super race people can't make use of what is here is beyond me. Native flora and faune is of excelent life sustaining quality.

We introduced fish in the belief that the existing fish are of poor quality, introduced cattle because there were no animals with red meat, introduced farming methods that had no relationship with the weather patterns....... oh crikey, now I sound like a greenie.

Alot of people under estimate the carps fighting power, I used to catch quite alot of carp in the lakes and rivers when spotting for trout and Bass. And I tell you what, they go like a freight train and don't give in easily.

We used to catch them on fly gear #4 or 5 wt rods and mainly on brown woolybuggers or nymphs.

Apart from that they are a huge pain in the you know where, I have personally seen the devistation that they make to our waterways.
