    Lake Awoonga/Gladstone trip

We've finally got a break and decided to spend a few weeks at Lake Awoonga,so towed the 520 Dory up from nth brisbane, left on monday9/10 with a forecast of howling SE all week, needless to say this isn't one time the BOM was wrong. Plenty of barra were caught in the lead up to the full moon(before we got there) with water temps over 26degrees. With temps around 22 degrees all week and SE winds not that many have been caught, I got one at 53cm, and the only other ones we have seen are from guys who troll all night and take turns sleeping and have about 6 fish in 3days so far, good ones tho well over a metre and a couple just under. Hopefully the water will warm up again from this weekend and the bassamundi and I can get a few.......or one at least.
We have also fished a bit at the boyne river at benaraby with juvenile jacks, bream, grunter, flathead, but again nothing decent. Altho a large turtle which took a soft plastic.
Went across to south end on saturday, and tried for tuskies and trout but seems the current was running too slow, caught flatties and cod but nothing decent again. And got a 2nd huge turtle on a crab bait.(arent they fun until you realize what it is )
Over to Gatcombe head for a fish Sunday morning(locked my keys in the car wasnt that fun and 1/2 hour later got going), had a fish on the inside of gatcombe with lures, bait , nothing at all not even pickers, so we decided to head around the front of facing island for a look, after we went around the large set gill net, up towards sable chief Kaimen got a couple small bonito, We had a look and anchored up in about 40 ft at sable chief rocks with life on the sounder and caught a few legal red throat and honeycomb cod, could have taken home a feed but was just really looking around. Anyway as we were looking around I saw some birds working and we decided to give them a go before heading home. I ended up with 2 Mac tuna boated and numerous hookups and runs and spits, while Kaimen was getting quite frustrated with not even a touch >, I even changed lures with him at one stage and got one on the lure he was using straight away. Not impressed!
Anyway we are here for nearly 2 more weeks so time will tell..............................

Good report & photo presentation, I just passed Gladstone on highway with my boat just bought from North.
I was tempted to stop at awoonga for a look and perhaps give boat ride...but the time has ran out... there's always next time
