After a little research and help from a few members here, I finally got around to my first bass chasin trip to Lake Samsonvale. I decided for my first trip I would stick to easily reached areas by foot, and parked somewhere between Bullocky Rest and Forgan Cove and walked 20 minutes to the water. First lure hit the water at about 5.10 am, and water was fairly shallow flats in most places with the occassional area having a steeper bank and a deeper drop off.I started with a Jackall Mask Vibe in the purple colour, but there was quite a bit of weed in the area and it was coming back to shore covered in it. Time for a rethink.
I then switched to a TT Spinnerbait 1/8 ounce in similar colours to the mask vibe , and at approx 5.30 I caught my first bass which went 46 cm. A couple of pic's and he was free to go. I am also a first time spinnerbait user and found that the slowest possible retrieve to spin the blades worked best for me. Caught bass number 2 at around 5.50 am, and he measured 44 cm. Duly released after pics.
Last fish was caught at around 7.10 am and although he was the smallest ( 39cm) he gave me the most trouble out of the 3 I caught. I am so impressed with the fighting capabilities of these fish- they pull hard. I also missed a few hook ups over the 3 hrs I fished and am stoked to have caught bass on my first effort at targeting them.
I'll be back, and will probably try some harder to get to places to see if I can find some deeper water.
Hopefully all pics will show
