Gave Yabba creek a go this weekend to see what was in it. We started off at the camp site below the dam wall and worked our way down to crossing No. 2 on saturday which is alot of water. The majority of the creek is fast flowing rapids that seemed void of predatory fish but the start and end of deep ponds held fish. The fish shut down during the middle of the day but we picked up bass in quick succession during the afternoon period just before we got hit by a storm which I had to ride my bike through to get back to the car. anyway the saturday total was 13 bass and a yellowbelly. The bass were as fat as i've ever seen them the largest of which was thick the way a yellowbelly or silver perch is with the hump above its head. They where also strong and spirtited fighters. many fish had to be pulled back out of timber. We also saw 2 saratoga around the 50cm mark and an abundance of lung fish (some of which were well over a metre long). We only had a quick fish this morning as we had to leave early and where also to exhausted from the day before where we dropped 2 small bass. We also saw about 15 platypus over the two days so if youve never seen one before give this creek a paddle. The photo of the largest bass is on my friends camera and the yellowbelly is on an unfinished film but i'll post pic's when they are avialable to me but don't hold your breathe waiting.
