    Lake Awoonga/Gladstone trip cont.

Well after nearly 2weeks of trying, casting trolling jigging, we have been unable to get another barra(see previous post) let alone one over 100cm. (I refuse to troll all night as most people are getting them that way) Ive decided that with the forecast over 20knots SE for the next week up here its time to head home. We have one more day of chasing barra with nearly decent weather so heres hoping.
We have fished a few other places like the toolooa bends/lillies and out towards the old meatworks jetty and caught a few fish, decent flathead, cod, trevally, big bream, barracuda and a few others, no more turtles tho luckily.
Went out the front of facing island up towards sable chief on saturday morning and scored some mac tuna again, and threw a few lures around gatcombe head on the way back for a nice cod which was filleted and dropped off at my fathers place.
Also had a look at the top of the calliope river in the fresh chasing sooties but the barred grunter were in plague proportions so no luck there.
All in all still a good trip and I cant wait to get up here again. Hopefully we will get some (or at least one barra please) tomorrow before we go.

Fingers crossed you do get a barra. Sounds like you have had some fun with other species anyway.

Well we made it home safely, still didnt get that decent barra(maybe go up for a few days around xmas when the weather/water is alot warmer). We went down spotlighting on the last night and caught some incredibly large rainbowfish i brought home for the fish tank.

turtleshead, no thats not devils elbow which is way further down the calliope river and is saltwater and very tidal but an excellent jack spot.

This is the view(and my rig) from our awoonga accommodation.

About 100meters walk to there iceman, the water pump draws from there. Those darned barred grunter are annoying, not many of them or any bait in the dam for that matter compared towhat it used to be lke.
