Bass from the Tweed on Saturday.

After getting really wet fishin the rocks on Saturday morning me and my mate Joshy decided to hit up the Tweed River for a few Bass. Thought a bit of flow could get the on the chew.

First cast walking the banks a solid 37cm Bass was caught, using the trusty little Rmg Scorpian. Caught another 7 between us in the next 2 or so hours from the bank. All fish except 1 were over 30cm up to 38cm.

None of the Bass were in good condition, with a fungal infections on most of them, and quite skinny.
All were released. We used RMG Scopians and ecogear lures with 6lb braid.

    Cheers Matt

Good stuff. when i fished my regular spot last weekend i also noticed that many fish had lost condition. Does anyone know if tweed bass have a late spawning run? I noticed that doon doon creek has a closed season from the the 1st of august till the 31th of october which to me suggests that they breed later.

I have a theory on this Jeremy. The same sign is posted below the dam wall at Toonumbar (Iron Pot Creek). I reckon it is not so much for the spawning run but for the return journey. I've only seen this sign posted on creeks below major obstructions. I assume it is to protect the fish that are returning from spawning as they will school up below the obstruction untill the food runs out then disperse back downstream in search of greener passtures. Thats MY theory, but I wouldn't know if it is right or not

    Cheers, roo.
