After 2 long Monday trips up the coast chasing Barra I decided to fish a bit closer to home. I wrestled my motor off the tinnie on Sunday (not looking forward to putting it back) and headed up to Hinze on monday morning. It was only the second time that I visited the dam so wanted to do a bit of sight seeing as well. We hit the edges of the grass with the usual lures and did it pretty tough till we worked out a pattern. The fish came pretty steady after that and we ended up with around twenty fish and a few dropped. I then did a bit of driving chewing up another battery having a look around. There is heaps of water in the dam and it had changed significantly from when I was there a couple of years ago.
It was a pretty good day and the Hinze Bass pull pretty hard
Well done Rod, 20 Bass is a top session. Did you get any on the surface? I haven't had much luck yet my self on the surface this season yet, usually firing by now!!
The fish were right up in the backs of the bays in the morning (RIGHT UP AGAINST THE GRASS)
so we started to chase the bays until they moved out to the points and deeper water as the sun rose higher. They moved back into the bays again as it got later in the day. Jackal CHubbies and Smith Camions worked well up tight against the weed bringing them down the face as well as the slider softies. The tn50s and 60's picked off the deeper fish and when we were looking for concentrations of fish we could work them pretty quick. We tried to stick to the productive water that the fish were in at the time of the day. If that makes any sense.
It did take us about an hour of hard fishing before we started to work out the pattern. Try to take note of the exact location of the first few fish you catch and then just replicate the spots. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. It did for us on the day.
