    Monduran report  November 4th

Well i travelled up to Awoonga last night and put in for a night fish and got absolutly drenched by the rain. Then came the wind and then the cold!! So with my tail between my legs i put the boat back on the trailer and decided to head to Monduran a bit closer to home. When i woke this morning it was not raining but you could see it was going to dump on us eventually > But we just got in and gave it a go and had a blast. We landed 4 fish for the day with my 92cm fish being the biggest.

    JUST A WARNING!!!!
The dam has dropped alot over the past few weeks and there is now a whole new heap of logs poking out of the water in the middle of the main basin!!! Do not go screaming across the basin in the dark if you have not yet found this new obsticle!!!!

Anyways here are some happy snaps from today.

Fish of the day my 92cm barra

    92cm on the mat

My mate Stu with his 1st barra i promissed him

I pulled this little fella out of the lantana behind me

Pretty impressive haul there mate. Don't want to steel all your secrets but is that a halco lure in your pics?
Hopefully heading up there around xmas and I'm not sure what lures to use. I haven't done much barra fishing so I'm just trying to get hints from anywhere I can.

    Cheers DARC

    Great fishing SETTHEHOOK,

My fav lure too and colour.

Are the logs you speak of exposed or submerged??? And are they in the middle of the basin or a bit further up near the "Island" as you head right out of the main basin??

    Thanks
    Navi

Well done set the hook nice fish and nice work taking someone out who hasn't caught barra before and putting them on to some great fun (barra fever ha.

Did you catch the fish casting or trolling?

    What was the water temp?

What areas would you suggest to fish at Monduran?

    How many boats were out?

All the best on your next trip.

Sounds like the timber around "Bass Straight" is starting to show itself again. Some pretty wicked timber in there if thats where you're talking about.

    Both

    What was the water temp?
fish trolled up in around 25 deg, fish on casting in around 27 deg

What areas would you suggest to fish at Monduran?
main basin for a troll and the wind blown inlets that hold plenty of lantana.

    How many boats were out?
    never seen so many there!!

All the best on your next trip.

    Re:  Monduran report #November 4th

DARC ring the managers in Dec and ask them what the go is then. May or may not be halco crazy deeps.

Currently it is 3 foot deep running lures in around 10 feet of water, on a very congested trolling run; no need to look for birds, look for boats.

They are also catchable in 80 feet of water on deeper divers (standard Vipers etc), and casting in the timber. Although for a mug like me, much easier, if more stressful, to catch on the troll

As a mug (second trip) I caught a few, and saw a lot caught over the last 10 days. Just get up there, keep your eyes open as to what is working, and have a chat at the ramp, the camp, and the fish cleaning table. And keep a few bucks to spend at the shop on the dam
