Upper Pine River - Friday17th
Well it's blowing a gale - AGAIN!!! and I needed to have a fish, so I put the canoe on the car and headed for my favourite spot in the upper reaches of the Pine River to try for some mullet. Got tied up to my favourite snag and started to berley. It took about 20 minutes for some action to start, but after that the fish became more and more enthusiastic. I caught and released a bit over 20 mullet (to about 35cm) and 5 bream to about (25cm) in about 3 hours fishing. I'd hoped for some bigger mullet, but I might have to wait until the weather warms up in a month or so. I did hook one larger fish that felt very solid but the hooks pulled after a few seconds. All in all it was a very pleasant morning

Outriggers, I'm green with envy!!!!!!! We saw one or two reasonable sized ones when we paddled sunday, they must go hard on light gear.

Looks like good fun freeeedom!!!
Were you using bread or a dough mix for the bait?? I have been keen to get in my canoe and explorer the reigon of the pine above the rail bridge. I will get around to it one of these days!!!!

Beats sitting at home watching the tv or the trees blowing in the wind.
Nice pics.

Yeah they are great fighters on light gear Shayne. When they get above a kilo it takes quite a while to bring them to the canoe, but at least they are fairly clean fighters so you don't lose many if you take your time.
Brandon I was berleying with bread and using dough for bait.
