Fairburn Dam Info needed
Hi all , I am thinking of taking the Family to Fairburn Dam after the New Year. Does it get quite busy at this time.
What type of Fish are predominately stocked and/ or is it good fishing.
Is there much to do as far as Family orientated goes. 4wd'ing Bush-walking etc:.
Any help or information would be appreciated, and what lures should i gather to add to my small collection.
Thanks in Advance
Brett.

Catching redclaw is very popular at fairburn. Im not sure if they still catch alot but when I used to live around there a few years ago we used to catch heaps in opra house traps in about 10 to 20ft deep using dog buscuits for bait. There are barra, saratoga, murray cod and yellow belly in the dam but not in any great numbers considering the size of the dam. Your best bet for catching a fish would probably be trolling deep divers for yellowbelly and cod or bait fishing with worms or live shrimp. You would probably have more luck catching a fish by fishing the nagoa river nearby. Check out this site for info on the dam http://www.sweetwaterfishing.com.au/Maraboon.htm

Brett, It gets pretty busy at any time of the year. Have just returned from there about 2 weeks ago and if your going at that time take plenty of ice as it gets very hot this time of year.
There is a mining boom on at the moment so as there is only one camping area at Fairbairn it is usually gets filled up quickly with workers taking their flexi days etc, but there is also plenty of camping at Emerald which is about 25 kms north and also if your into fossicking Rubyvale and Saphire close by.
The Dam itself is spectacular and as you can see by the attached brochure the lake is large and there are plenty of activities to keep everyone busy but next time we will be going at a cooler time of the year.

Thanks Guy's any help is appreciated.
I use to live at Emerald some 36 years ago at the age of 2, so I don't think I am any help to myself.
My dad and his friends use to take me fishing to one of the local rivers chasing Yellas. But obviously I can't even remember that. Now my Dad is gone I have to get my info from a bit more of an updated source.
Thanks again
Brett
