Also I got a Tandanus Cattie at 51cms. I ended up with 5 Bass and the Eel-Tailed Cattie all on the one TN70 Jackall in a 4hr session so not too bad. My mate Angus got 1 Bass and Ando got 2. They definately preferred the Jackall that day over the Duel Vibe and the Berkley Frenzy Rattle Trap. One of my bass took the 70mm lure and it was only 200mm long so even the small ones take big lures when their hungry.

I have never heard an eel tail catfish referred to as a Tandanus Catfish before. But they are very nice eating.
And be careful with importing Mask Vibs into Australia because if Customs open you're order they will confiscate the Mask's because of it's soft body. They have recently started cracking down on soft plastics.

Chris soft plastics are fine as long as they have no animal products, or have scents on them. Berkley Gulps seem to be causing the biggest problems and the scented ones I have had Sliders opened by customs in the past many a time with no problems.

Let's just hope... or prey that the lures arrive unharmed . I've heard about this customs crap with plastics. Well Masks don't have scent or animal products so all should be good .

FishyTales: Eel-Tailed Catties have all sorts of names. Even Freshwater Jew which I think sounds a bit incorrect but the Southerners call them that.

What GL2 Loomis were using? A mate has a 2-4kg 6'6" but its hard to whip heavy lures like lipless crankbaits a far distance since the rod is more of a light weight class. I have a 1-3kg IMX and that's extremely whippy. The only thing it really does is small plastics and hardbodies. I use my good old Dropshot since I can out cast my IMX and Ando's GL2 about 30-40m to about 15-20m with a TN70.

I prefer the TN70's landbased since casting distance is what you really want and there's not too much structure around North Pine. It's all 10m up the bank from the droubt. I've got all my spots picked for when it starts raining again . Even though the heavy lures really drag across the bottom I don't manage to pick up a heck of a lot of weed and the fish still take it. I think the TN70's have more of a vertical swimming action so the trebles are kept off the bottom. My mates were using other vibes and picking up weed just about every cast. What do you guys think? .

    Hi Troy,

The G.Loomis is a GL2 SJR 782 3 to 6 kg with a fast medium action.Probably shouldn't have purchased it, as it does the same job as my Black Diamond Clear Cut. It does a decent job throwing Jackalls and Mask Vibs, but not real suited to this purpose.

I am soon to take delivery of a custom built baitcaster rod which will suit throwing the crankbaits and spinnerbaits I toss at bass.

The Mask Vibs are my favourite to throw, and they pick up no more weed than the TN60 and TN70's.

And I have been catching eel tail catties for over 30 years, hence my comment about never having heard them called Tandanus.Skin em with a pair of pliers and they taste very nice. I use to go to any suburban creek here in Brisbane and throw a line with a piece of raw steak on it, and had no trouble getting a few.(as well as heaps of freshwater eels)
Not sure those same creeks would have any water in them now though.

I too have found that Shimreels has the cheapest Jackalls, but even though they and the Masks are my current go to lure for bass, I am looking for alternatives that are even cheaper.
The Slider soft plastics work well too, especially when used on a TT rev head jig.

Can't get much cheaper than that.

Rev Heads, will have to get some. Forgot all about them. I haven't caught or targeted Bass with silent vibes. When they arn't hitting rattlers do you find they hit silent vibes? Or things liek Spinnerbaits and Rev Headed Soft Plastics?

Last time I was there with 2 mates I didn't catch a thing. Though I was using Kackalls and 4lb main so just incase I got one it didn't matter if Igot busted off or snagged since they are only 5-$6. I was also using a heavily weighted Squidgie Fish and didn't get a touch. It was really windy and it was hard to get good straight connections to your lures most times. In this situation would you go hard up against the dam wall? Or futhurest away from it in a sheltered bay etc? Or just not go fishing? I was opposite the dam wall and walked from one of the cark parks along Forgan Road.
