Happy New Year fellow Ausfishers

Decided to take the tin lids to Moogerah today, it has been fishing quite well over the last month however we the invasion of lake lice over the holiday break things have slowed a little.

Unfortunately there is only 4 ski boats allowed to be using Moogerah at any one time, but as we all know lake lice aren't the sharpest tools in the shed and they get 4 and 44 mixed up.(sorry for the exaggeration but seems like it in the centre washpool)

The water level continues to drop and teh old boat ramp is a bit treacherous, some fishers are still launching their tinnies there but checking water first. We have been launching in a gravelled area about 300 metres to the right.

Today we scored some nice bass to 40 cm on trolled G-Vibes bibless rattlers and a couple of small yellows.

We were on the water about 7.30am and the lake fished well till about 9.30am, unfortunately this time co-incided with the lake lice starting their circuits of the lake.

We scored our yellows around about the middle of the day but once the lake lice circuit had started the quality of the bass dimished considerably.

And we were trolling in a line from the old boat ramp to the Gorge which seemed to work quite well.

On a previous trip the lake lice circuit has pushed the fish up into the bays not part of the lake lice circuit and I have been grateful has this has concentrated the fish.

I feel for the local Park operator but i hope that someone does not get hurt with so much boat traffic. We ventured out today hoping the lake lice had returned to work but they were still there in numbers to give you something to whinge about.

So my advice is go early morning till about 10am (before the lake lice wakeup) and late afternoon from 3 (when they have run out of fuel and gotten tired) and the fishing has still been excellent

thanks budge bass i was thinking of giving it a go this weekend depending on weather , i have also a apology for i wrote in a previous post that skiers were not allowed in the lake under 10% but my informant was wrong.SORRY EVERYONE thats what i had been told. may have to fish maroon as i will have the tin lids with me as well. sorry again cheers bdowdy

Dont think i will take the full boar 5.5m there given the inadequate ramp, can anyone tell me if the lake lice might be hazardous for someone in a bass catcher canoe with outrigger?

Also, any Gold Coast people who go to moogerah, can they tell me the best/quickest route to get there from southern Goldie?

It is a bit hard to keep up with it all, apparently under the previous water authority this was the rule.
However the Dam is now under the control of another authority who recently have said "ski at your own risk.

And fishing wise if you go early there has been some good fish around, with a bit better size than what Maroon can offer, but up to you.

And ROYSDY

There have been some big ski boats around but as mentioned before if you go early enough before the lake lice wake up then your outrigger should be OK

And from the coast head to Nerang then take the Beaudesert turn off, head to Beaudesest then to Boonah.

im thinking of heading out there on sunday to target them,

which area did you get the yellas in? and what methods,

any advice appreciated.

PS: are they really bright yellow in moogerah or white

Hi Pinhead

The term "Lake Lice" is a term of endearment and is a tolerance mechanism, and like everything there are good and bad lake lice.

However they are always consistent - fishin boats attract them like moth to the flame. 1 fishing boat on a large or small body of water and for some reason lake lice have to drive right by you. And for some reason 100 metres and 10 metres and the difference is something most lake lice don't understand. Which is very hard to tolerate > > > >
And this consistency applies to any lake lice on any body of water in any part of this country.

So to me "lake lice" are just like flies, no matter what you do they will always be there so I can say 'damn flies'....but I can tolerate them and get on with it.
I take the same approach to lake lice.

All the yellas I have caught in there have been the golden colour. Haven't come across any white specimens.

Yellows are a bit hard to target in Moogerah as they are schooling up in the middle of the lake
Trolling around you will get a bass and then a yellow

And most are from last years stocking so size from 35-40cm

There is an odd big fellow amongst

But they are at their golden best with nice yellow colourings

i have only ever fished moogerah from the banks so wouldnt know where to start,

where should i launch and then which direction do i head?,
any particular depth they sit in?

also budgebass do the gvibes get deep enough for them? when on the troll

i have only ever fished moogerah from the banks so wouldnt know where to start, you cannot use the boat ramp but wherever you put in start trolling immediately towards the gorge which will be on the western side of the dam
or troll in a straight up the middle of the dam towards teh wall

any particular depth they sit in? Watch your sounder for the bigger schools and the dropoffs into the creek, the fish seem to be sitting where there is the greatest differences in depth

There are 2 types of G Vibes one is a deep G Vibe and the other is a normal G Vibe, obviously. The deep G Vibe has more lead in the nose.
We have been scoring our yellows mostly on the deep version.
And colours there are a few in the range but the silver or black with orange or blue or purple have been the winners.
Either way we have been trolling them with at least 50-75 metres of line out, have a lost a few fish getting them back to the boat but seem to catch more the longer back the line is.
If the skiers are there simply troll in the areas where the skiers arent going. The skiing runs seem to congregate the fish where the skiers dont go - and who said fish were silly.

The deep G-Vibe version you are talking about is the G-Vibe Search... They are a good lure for the price but it can be hard to get them sometimes. Don't have alot of colours to choose from either. I use them all the time up here for Sooties in the Dam's, and have had success with them on Flathead in the Salt.

Reason Im posting this is that im low on a Colour... Im looking for a G-Vibe (Normal, or Search), that is Orange with Silver Strikes... If any of you have this colouration Id be happy to swap with some of mine or maybe some other small Hardbaits.
