Broadwater - any fish left ??

Hello -1st post - just moved to Broadwater area - from sunny Tas - have been unable to catch a thing - any fish left on / near broadwater - or am I too late ?? - I have treid, fresh baits, plastics, lures - seaway, surrounding esturies etc etc. Please help - or check classified section for cheap fishing gear...hehe????

Hi Lucy, Welcome to Ausfish.

I don't fish the broadwater a lot as I don't catch much there either. Most of the reports I see of success in the broadwater are from boaties fishing live bait at the right times.

If you are landbased, don't ignore the beach option especially at dawn and dusk, there are a lot of tailor and a few dart around at the moment, Flathead in the gutters are common too.

Don't get me wrong, the Broadwater has a lot of fish in it, but the fishing pressure has taught the bigger ones how to avoid conventional means of catching them. I am sure the good anglers are still getting fish there even thought it takes a bit of work.

They are out there!

I reckon a boat's the only option down the coast now. a 16 footer will get you out and about, and plenty around for low(ish) dollars. Once you've got a boat - so many more opportunities open up - off shore / inshore / estury and most importantly more secluded spots. Whilst the broadwater still has fish in it - The sheer boating presence and fishing pressure has just about finished it off. Sure you might catch 1 or 2 but serious fish have left that area. If your serious about having a good time and gunna live on the Coast for a while - You really will be making a wise investment purchasing a small boat. On the plus side if you get the right type, you can utilise it for heaps of more family orientated sports - like skiing etc. Take care - use local bait, and tight lines - Si.

Ok from the Broadwater it can be very tricky if you don't know where to look from the seaway wall go right to the end and fish from the flat rock opposite the red beacon from the broadwater it self try some of the more common areas Southport bridge or along the grandveiw hotel boat ramp along the beach or just nth of this spot is good for Flathead, whiting off the council chambers, or head for the hope island bridge is a good spot for all tpyes of fishing from Jacks to Flathead, whiting and Jew fish hope this helps

Hello - I've just spent 3 hours at the seaway with not a bite !! ??? - My NEW advice is to sell up and move to Toowoomba - we know there's fish up there !!!

There is plenty of fish left in the broadwater. You need a boat to get to the best ones though. Have caught parrot whitting bream flathead tailor jew queenies tarwhine crabs etc etc. Along straddie near currige, near wavebreak sandbanks with deep water,North and South of the island.

There's plenty of fish on the coast, including the Broadwater. If you lookpast the Seaway walls which would have to be the most popular spot, there is fish in almost every location. Land based limits your options some what, but you will still get a feed, if you fish the right locations. The best place to start would be north of Labrador. There are many sand banks that are accessable at low tide & provide a haven for flathead & whiting. Near the boat ramp there are weed beds that give up squid & gar and the rock walls that give entrance to the canal systems yield luderick. If you are hell bent on fishing the Seaway, jew, jacks, tarpon, queenies, trevally... should i go on, can be caught here. Just because you bum out once, don't mean there is nothing there. Like every location you have your good days & bad days. Within 30 mins travel you have Tallebudgera, Currumbin creeks & Nerang, Coomera rivers that hold everything just abouts.

The key is not only fresh baits, but local bait. It's no use throwing in a pillie, if the fish are feeding on herring, which mind you is almost 99.999999% the case. A castnet should see you with enough baits quickly & a dozen or so livies. live baits are deadly for just about all species. Just about all species will hammer a live herring or poddy mullet. Nippers as well & don't forget worms. Better than the old prawn, I can tell you.
