Palm Beach
Went out to Palm Beach Reef yesterday morning to chase a few mackerel with little success. A few were caught but spinning silver slugs but sharks came through early and wasnt much happening. Just woundering as it was my first time fishing for mackeral using foaters, what depth do you set them to sink to, and do you use a 3 gang rig of streight 5.o's (6.o's) ?
Plan on heading out from the seaway next week sometime to fish the inshore reefs if anyone wants to meet up.
Cheers

Re: Palm Beach
Mackerel are a bloody finicky fish I tell ya!!!
It all depends on what they feel like on the day, on day its raiders the next its lasers the next is pilchard baits the next its bloody squides. Mate you have to have a few things on tap & try them. In regards to bait depth, a Northerly seems to send them deep & southerly up top. have a few baits at different depths to find whih depth they are feeding at.

Re: Palm Beach
Thanks for the advice Heath, will keep it in mind next trip out. Apparently the new purpleish Raider (just cant remember its name) is worth haveing on board as well.
Cheers
