    Townsville luring

    HI,
When i fish i usually use baits and every now and then flick a lure around but i have now decided to get serious about lure fishing. I was wondering what land based spots are the best around townsville if you wanna flick a lure. I would like to concentrate on the creeks but anywhere would do. Also what lures have you found to work well in these spots.

    Cheers Brett

Brett, I was just thinking about same and have been having a look around lately for potential's spots.

Would appreciate any feedback from anyone else up this way as fishing up here's new to me. A few thought's below from what I've seen around (not sure of access to a couple of the spots):

Ross River Bridge at Oonoonba; Aplins Weir; Ross Island Marina and surrounds; Bohle River Sth side - possible access through Town Common ???; Marina & Bays at Maggie; Cape Pallarenda to Bohle River mouth.

The tackle box is currently being refreshed with some of Mackmauler's finest . I'll reserve judgment on lure choice until I see what Santa's sending up 8). Only one way to find out though ay.

    Must start casting.

    Cheers.

As far as the creeks go, land based snag bashing is pretty limited, unless you enjoy wading around in the mud, with the mozzies & croc's. #

The spots mentioned by BS are worth as look, as are the rocky headlands along the strand & the breakwall near the harbour.

Grab a map & look for bridges, causeways etc

Palleranda headlands & the few bays, beaches & rocky points to the north up to shelley beach are worth the walk, you'll find the tracks pretty easy to follow from near the old quarantine jetty at palleranda. best off with about 2m of tide or more, after about a mile there's a small creek you can cross, shallowest is at the sand bar just out from the mouth, sandy bottom, at 2.5m tide it's about knee to thigh deep.

unfortunately, It's also a bit of a "spot" where dirty old men go to meet up with other like minded dirty old men #, so keep the hooks sharp on the gold bomber & a quick flick towards their exposed dangly bits should ward off any unwanted advances #

What sort of lures do you guys recomend for throwing around at the causeway near the causeway hotel.

Try down around Guru about 45minutes South of Townsville. Haughton River, Morrissy Creek, Barratttas etc... Barra, Jacks, Fingermark all the usual. I had a ball the last I was up there but it was mainly trolling.
