Let me start by saying that I have only attended one such event, this was the Evans Head Classic last year. My impression of this event was that it was totaly self serving for the local bussiness houses, after viewing the ramp on the third day where the cleaning tables were the river bed could not be seen for a mass of fish frames,I have to wonder how long it is before these people kill the goose that lays the golden egg.A recent report states that twenty five tonnes of fish was killed during the duration of this comp.I am not against fishing comps,I regularly fish with my club on a monthly basis for a point score but this comp has aspects that realy get caught in my throat.Firstly, this comp regularly attracts close to a thousand anglers, why should it be held exclusively at the same venue each year?(Brunswick Classic....Mono?)
Secondly, why should it run for a week or more? The Coffs Clasic does fine on a shorter time span.
Thirdly, this is the thing that realy pisses me,it's timed to co-inside when the reds are in close doing what nature intended them to do.....multiply.Do other comps have a similar format? Is this considered a well run sustainable comp?
