if indeed they are the old type spoons with one hook, slow is the idea or they bounce all over the place, can remember when i was 7 yrs old my brother catching mackerel on spoons now thats a long time ago, i use to steer while he watched the two lines, bloody hurt when one went off cause they were on the floor bloody great wooden reels that the old man use to own, whiplash up the arms from the line.

yes, Joe,
they're the one, made by Halco.
As rigged, there is the big spool you wrote of, some green cord, some brown multistrand wire, a swivel, a hugemungous barrel sinker, another swivel, and a few metres of mono wire, then the spoon.
I just love sitting in the boat, reefing on this line to make the spoon dart, as my mate drives from spot to spot at about 7kph. Until he stops somewhere shallow and reefy.
I was wondering whether it would cope with 7 or 8 kts

my brothers firts boat was a 10 ft seafarer with a 5hp mcullough was flat out doing 7 knots but we use to catch our fair share up burrum heads, some days coming home against the current the boat would just stop in one place then move forward with the motor working its heart out. will try and find out more next time i talk to him, should be tonight.
cheers
joe.
