Hi,
I am just wondering what gear ratio everyone recomends, for medium speed spinning. I will be spinning for smaller pelagics and the like.
Cheers Brett

Hi Brett,
Not exactly sure what your targeting mate ???
If your fishing for Tailor, Small Tunas & Mackerel go for a ratio between 4.2 to 1 and 6 to 1. I have seen plenty of Bonito and Tailor caught on a 6500 Baitrunner which is 4.2 to 1. Although this reel is not suited to this style of fishing, it highlights the fact that most quality reels can get the job done.
I recommend not stuffing around and go for the Speedmaster (Shimano) TSS4 (5.8 TO 1 RATIO). This reel can really crank metal !!!
Cheers
Craig.
I have been using a Tica Camry 3500 lately and I'm very impressed with it. At 6.3:1 it has no trouble getting enough speed for tuna. Tons of line capacity for fast runners Ive got about 450m of 8lb fireline on it. Its priced at around 140 dollars. It has so far managed 3 kilo mack tuna with no problems, can't wait to try it out on a longtail!
Craig
The TSS 4 is the ducks ' you know what's " here, but Rowdy might be onto something here.
Can you keep us informed of it's performance and any probs that occur ?
The price is right for the Tica. ???
