    Herring on the Gcoast ?

    Hi there,

I have a cast net and have been shown how to throw the bugger. Now I need to know where I can find herring for bait.

I live at Runaway Bay on one of the canals there and see lots of poddies, but no herring.

    Cheers and thanks in advance,

    Wayne

Gday Wayne, you know mullet are like carp don't you a herring is a fragile critter, takes better water than what you get in those swamps in runaway bay to keep em happy, at high tide I always used to be able to get them in the small canal between shearwater and the marina, the jetties near the sail boat club in that area are good as well.

    Hey Rob,

    Thanks for the info.

I'm actually moving into my house on Shearwater tomorrow (Thursday). Got to keep the boat in the lockup at the Marina till i work out what to do with either a boatramp or an airdock.

I'll have a look where you said next time I am out.

    Cheers

Wayne, I haven't been there for a fair while, but there used to be good numbers of herring under the Sundale Bridge.

I'd guess that they could also be found under other bridges in the river or near the Broadwater like the ones at Sovreign Is. and maybe the one at Labrador, but I have never tried either of these spots myself.

    Cheers, Don.

    Wayne,

Try the Sundale Bridge & also the drop offs near the spit boat ramp & Seaworld. Mostly they hang around structure. Or a night near bridges & pontoons, right on the shadow line they will be.

with herring, what you can't shake out of the net forget about, it will be too late for them. Herring die at the drop of a hat & they do need good quality water.

    Good bait though

Good to see you finally made it on here Wayne.

Between this, Fishing Noosa, the QFM board and the Marlin Bar you will really get a handle on what is being caught where.
