    Fishing reefs off Wolf Rock

Want to take a short trip up the coast to fish a new area and fish the reefs close to the east off Wolf Rock (Double Island/Rainbow Beach). What are my options re:launching/retrieving boat? I have two boats at my disposal - 18ft Cruise Craft or 14ft c/console tinnie - which better suited?

Will be travelling up for a look soon (I live at Kawana Waters) but any information members can pass on would be most appreciated.

    Evening Fisho,
Really need to know if you are going to tow a boat along the beach & launch behind Double Island Point or are you going to put in at Tin Can Bay or Bullock Point & go out over the bar & run down to Wolf Rock?
As a general rule I would launch the tinnie from the beach at DIP (assuming you have a 4WD & beach launch experience) or put the bigger boat in behind Inskip Point & go out over the bar. Tin Can Bay Coast Guard will provide current GPS Waypoints to get you across the bar.
Suggest you phone TCB Coast Guard & get some local info. You can often follow the pro & charter boats across the bar in the AM but coming in PM can be a bitch cause the sun is in your face. This is not a place for learners but if the weather comes away you can always run the boat up onto the sand behind DIP & work out a recovery plan later.
Wolf Rock is a different place. Big sharks at times- all you get is heads. You can get confused seas or it will be like glass. Take care & get as much local advice as possible.
    ROLL TIDE, ROLL.................

    Regards,
    Peter

Spot on advice Peter, good reply.

There is some fishable ground about 1kilometer due west of Wolf that has been good on the odd ocassion.

Maybe we'll see you up there, but with the wind predictions............ DOH !
