hi guys,
i want to start getting serious about catching prawns but im only a begginer in this game (i bought a 10ft cast net about 6 months ago but have only used it to catch live bait in the form of herring, mullet and snub nosed gar). i have cuaght prawns before in the likes of cabbage tree creek and in the pummicestone passage, which were used live for excellent results, accounting for some memorable fish. id like to know how i can catch them consistently, both greasies and the much sought after bannana prawns. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks
hi fred
try thompsons beach 9 days either side of the new moon, some of the canals and creeks nugget had a good article in bush n beach a fair while ago here is nuggets site http://www.ausfish.com.au/nugget/articles.htm you could probably contact nugget for a few more pointers.
cheers.
thanks for the tip jaybee, but where is thompsons beach? .....i must sound pretty stupid. i do have a dragnet made for me by my grandfather who used to fish extensively around the scarborough region for excellent catches of monster whitting and gar and also around buckleys hole at bribie.

Has anyone down south ever tried dillying for Prawns??.Up here Gladstone we used ta get em off the Wharfes via the use of Dilly's. Big Prawns and when on the run ., used ta get heaps. Afraid aint allowed nowadays except the smaller jetties. Still can get em there but not in the same numbers as previous.

thanks jaybee,
yeah i am on the northside and have only ever tried in cabbage tree, which isnt to bad after a bit of rain......mainly greasies though but they make an excellent live bait for some monster bream and flathead, not to mention an eel or two.
i might go there with my dragnet later next week, what can i expect to catch?
lata guys
not much during the day fred, mainly a night time proposition, greasies, the odd nanna, a feed o whiting, mullet, gar, the odd flathead, have been down there in over 12 month, on a high tide you are only working chest deep max.
cheers.
