    Heading for Yeppoon

    Gidday,
I'm heading north in a couple of weeks. And am going to go to Yeppoon and Rosslyn Bay for a couple of days.

Has anyone here fished these areas in the past?

Any advice in fishing the area (Species, locations, lures, baits, etc Would be greatly appreciated!

    We are landbased!

    Thanks heaps

Hi, Where are you staying? If at Rosslyn Bay there's good fishing at times off Double Heads at the harbour. Have to fish the top of the tide thru as the ledges are cut off at high tide. Different access for north & south ledges. South access from Kemp Beach. Not good in a southeaster. North access over the saddle between the heads then around the rocks. Good for mackeral & jew. Live bait or at least fresh caught is the way to go tho you can spin if you want. The breakwalls at the harbour can also be good. Fresh or livies again. If the tides are above 3.8 mtr an early morning run through at the causeway can be good. Live bait is the go. With fresh prawn, yabbies or beach worm any of the creeks can produce a feed. Lure & fly are for anywhere that looks good but have not had much success myself. There are a couple of maps available that show most of the likely spots. The tackle shops have them. Regards Bill

I could only agree with Bill, I've not had much experience around Double Heads but what I hear is exactly what Bill has said.
Just a note on where I've caught live bait for myself. Try around the bridge pillars at Ross Creek on low tide for some prawns and even some poddies.
Rosslyn Bay off the end of the boat ramp is ok at low tide for bait also with prawn, poddies and biddies.
Yabbies can be pumped at Ross Creek and the flats on the southern side of Causeway(again low tide), sea side of the road. Causeway is ok for gar and whiting any time of the tide along the rock wall if you're looking for them as bait also. Bread, squid tentacles and worms are all good bait there. Try berleying them up with bread for a bit first.
I don't know how acceptable it is in Rosslyn Bay but I've seen quite a few people casting nets from the harbour and pull up quite a bit of bait (herring, poddy mullet, even squid).
    Good luck mate.

Another place worth going to while you are there is Corio Bay north of Yepoon. Low tide is the time to fish if you are land based but be careful that you dont get cut off by rising tides.

Heaps of yabbies on the flats and I have cast netted plenty of poddies as well. Whiting, bream and flathead on yabbies and plenty of snodger flathead and trevally to be caught on lures.

While i didnt get any when I was there I am told that this is also a good spot for salmon.

    Cheers
