    Gold Coast Canals

    Hey guys,
Heading down to the Gold coast for wednesday and thursday. I wil be flicking soft palstics most of the time and maybe doing a bit of live baiting. Just wondering what the fishing has been like down there and any suggestions on where to try.
    Thanks,
    Jackash.

    Jackash,

If you've got a boat, the North Eastern corner of Wave Break island is worth a visit. Also, try the hole at the end of the northern sea wall with big (6") shads. White has been my most productive colour (jewfish on the bottom, biggish trevally on the top and mid water, and sometimes a tailor -- although other people always seem to get more than tailor than I do, so I guess my lure selection isn't best suited to them.)

If it's a bit choppy, try trolling or flicking around channels and sandbanks on the western side of Wavebreak. For trolling, try to get hold of some Brad Smith's "Lil Mates". Hard to get, but worth their weight in gold - especially in the 'Mortein' colour scheme. (I'll take any you can find, if you don't want them.)

Troll these in 1 to 1.5 metres of water and you can't miss. (I caught 11 species in one day on one of these lures - while fishing with Brad Smith himself).

Also, depending on conditions, flick or troll around the beacons heading south from the seaway, especially running with a rising tide.

No idea on what to do without a boat, sorry.

    Cheers,

    BRETTRICK.
