I was trolling 3 Hexhead lures for mackeral, 2 with mono leaders and one with plastic coated multi strand wire. In the pressure wave where the lures were running we could clearly see a mack crusing in and out of the spread looking at each lure and moving on to the next. After it swam behind the wire leader one it swam across to the far side and took one of the other lures.
I wondered if it was pure coincidence or the fact that the mono leader was a more natural look than the wire. The only problem I have is that it would not be cheap to keep replacing the hexheads if they get bitten off now and then. What do people think?
CamH, i look at it this way, lets say with mono trace you get 4 hookups , and only boat 2 fish cause u get bitten off twice, but with wire u only get 2 hookups but boat both fish cause of the wire, you end up with the same amount of fish but your not down $100 in lures... Depends how rich u are i guess
Yeah Cam
Rock and a hard place mate.
Definatly get more hits on the mono and more hits on the wallet as well. About all you can do is use lightest wire possible. Unless you are a rich man!
Keep in mind you only gave the fish a 33% chance of choosing the wire, and a 67% chance of taking the mono.
Who's to say he wouldn't have hit one anyway if they were all wire?
Cheers,
Jeff
