mullet are my usual choice, but also use yakka and pike.
have found a good spot on the north side of mud but having trouble getting them on the line - they strike anything even the swivel, have even tried small jigs but still no luck.
any help muchly appreciated. cheers

How you doing! If you are after live bait try jigging for yakka at the west cardinal off Mud.If you are very keen you can use a cast net off the St Helena Island Jetty. This is good for small mullet and pike.Hope this helps you out.But hey,It's gotta be better than Wynnum creek for God's sake .

Hi, Mr T gave you one, the cardinals on the west side, i also get them around the red, near the big bommie or the cardinal that marks the entrance to the lagoon midway up the western side, otherwise the coffee pots out hold pike and yakkas at time or otherwise you have to go to the m,mile,
diver can be found on the bank just nth of the elliot, hardihead can be netted at the cardinal on the point west of the red just inside the bay.
the only mullet i find are near the luggage point rocks inside the river.

Hey I was out on Sunday.Came into Manly around 5pm.
Fished Mud then to the Rous and nothing much doing and it was blowing 25kts plus in 2-3 m swell. Not much fun on home trip!

Luggage point is the go, try around the discharge pipe. The thrust block is a square concrete block. Just try either side of it with a cast net. You’re pretty safe as there re no "bities" that hang on to your net.
Your catches are herring, mullet & glassies.
See ya round

Re: live bait near mud island
the little bays on the n/e side of mud hold large schools of pike in winter locate on sounder and jig them with 2 inch soft plastics on 1/8th ounce jigheads, bright orange or red, also lots of squid and cuttlefish same area

Re: live bait near mud island
id agree with trollsroyce, as i have also had success in that area.
simply use baits jigs with a thin strip of squid (this tends to work well) for catching pike.

As mad keen says
A little bit of squid works a treat on the bait jigs for the pike when they are playing hard to get. Works on slimies too, sometimes means the difference between 1 or 2 and a full bait jig. Regards Tony

Yes i'll have to agree with agnes, a touch of squid can quicky get the slimies to load up ur jig. But it can attract unwated crap too.. give it a shot if there shy.
