Longtails nth nsw
Gday i am planning a north nsw trip soon and was just wondering if anyone has heard if anything is happening up there in the way of tuna, preferably longtail. and maybe spaniads. I will be land based up there and probably up near byron bay somewhere.
Any help would be great, and if anyone has fished there previous years some stories would be great.
Cheers

setthehook,
Check out the attached link for the latest Nth NSW reports.
http://www.fishingmonthly.com.au/rep...nswreport.html
As you can see, mention of spotties and spanish is marked outside. Think you would be flat out getting to them off the cape at Byron or Broken Head. Guy called Mono on this site lives at Byron and runs a charter out of Brunswick Heads. If you send him a PM, he might give you a better idea of your chances. Or look at heading out for a charter with him.
Clarance and Richmond rivers would have finally just had there first big flush, so you might be better looking for some jewie action at Iluka north wall or back beach, Woody Head or Ballina walls.
Let me know if you need some help with rock fishing spots around Byron.
Cheers,
Jeff

Re: Longtails nth nsw
you could try the peg at lenox head
it is a little rock sticking off the headland at lenox. it has a steel post "THE PEG" fixed to the miidle of this little rock. if i was chasing any LBG fish thats where i would be heading.
if there is a bit of swell i would suggest bungie rope from your self to the peg., i have seen 1 bloke go in in rough weather lost all his gear but not his rod as the rod & himself were bungied to the peg.
sounds scary but is a good place to have a go
goodluck

Re: Longtails nth nsw
yeh i use that link thanks for nth coast, however i have found it useless in the past. I had a mate fishing up north last year and he was absolutly braining bluefin land based for a month up there and the report for his area said good black fish and tailor lol. So if i watched that waiting to know when to go i would miss out. I really just want to know if longtails are getting around up there yet and if they are are they inclose and where. I saw them leaping out of the water year before last in december, then my mate got em end of feb into march and i got a few in april. So you never know when they will show up.i want to head up there in about 3 or 4 weeks it would be good to know they were there
