    Fishing after heavy rain

    G'day all

After a couple of nights of heavy rain, I was wondering if anyone could answer the following question:

As a land based fisho, what areas and species should be targetted after a lot of rain or conversely which areas are not going to fish as well after a few days of heavy rain?

    Thanks for your help.

I normally fish closer to the mouth of rivers and creeks. Incoming tide often works well. Deep holes often hold higher salinity levels down deep and can hold fish when the surface is running pretty fresh. Rock walls and river mouths can fire after a fresh.

if you are going to nudgee again you should fish right up at the mouth beefaman has caught a couple nice flathead in the drop offs with plastics so that would be your best bet but you could also try bait

Just had some good heavy rains here at agnes and it seems that the mouths of the creeks are the way to go. Have heard of some very nice grunter in the mouth over the last week. Also been some good golden trevally and a couple of school jew. The grunter are moving right up the creek and a fairly uncommon catch for around here fingermark have been turning up in a couple of the creeks as well. I have only caught finger mark myself on 2 occasions here and both times it has been after reasonable rain periods. We are still getting school mackeral, but the spanish and longtails have moved about 2kms out to the color change line. One thing I have noticed is that the jacks tend to go fairly quiet after heavy rain and often take a week or so to get back on the chew. Any ideas on that one? Are they just not chewing or do they move further up the creeks than normal or even out of the creeks after these heavy rain periods?

    ??? ??? ??? ???

    Guys

Thanks for the replies. I'll just have to try a few different spots and see if I can work out what works best after a downpour.

Jewies- I was thinking about heading to Nudgee Sunday morning but seeing as it is the Airport floodway I thought it might be running a bit too fresh. I will try closer to the mouth next time.

I went the other way instead to Birkdale near the canal mouth. Between dad and I five undersize whiting and an undersize bream that would have been lucky to add up to a legal fish if they were all lined up nose to tail. oh well there is always next time.

Tony- Provided you are prepared to fund my modest lifestyle and the research costs (bait, tackle, refreshments etc), I would be happy to devote the next few years of my life to researching the impact of all weather conditions on fish all around the country.

    Cheers
