    Garfish - what rig?

After all these years of fishin i still am yet to do any garfish fishing, i went last night for first time out back in canal at gf's place and got 2 nice ones (ready to catch my spainard on sunday ) but my rig needs some changes i think. Any info on gar fish rigs would be appreciated. , oh and i need to be able to cast it at least 5mtrs, so a little bit of weight required.

if you get a gar float (med mooden float) tie on the end of the line with 2 droppers off the main about 40cm apart tie littelst longshank hooks onto them about size 12 i think then just bearly up with prawn and bread mix and pinch a bit of peeled prawn off for the hook bait
the wheight in the float should be enoght to cast as far as you need
the small gars arin't bad tucker ether just fillet them roll them in crumbs and shallow frie
don't worrie about the bones in the small ones woun't even notice them
i think gars taste almost crabie!
    hope this helps

    Re: Garfish - what rig?

    G'Day fellas.
I'm only new to this site, so I hope I'm not being a bit presumtious in giving advice yet.
The best garfish rig I've ever used is made from one of my wifes hair curlers. You know the round plastic ones that are hollow and have an elastic band on them with a ball at the end (ask your missus she'll know what I'm talking about). Well, you just put a small clip swivel right in the middle of the curler to attach your main line to. This stops line twist. Then tie on a dropper from each end of the hair curler ( you only need 6 or 8 inches) and put on a number 12 hook. Then you fill the curler up with bread and slip the elastic band thing over it ( like when the missus uses it) . This holds the bread inside. Bait up with a bit of squid, prawn or whatever. When you cast it out, it floats and the curler lets the bread out in a fine burley through the holes in the plastic curler. Pull the rig in now and then to refill the curler with bread. Attracts them like anything and keeps them there. When you get a bite, the curler rolls up on its end and you can strike.

    Good luck
