Re: Rod class VS Line weight
Excuse my ignorance but what is a live fibre rod and what are the advantages/ disadvantges of a live fibre rod?

Re: Rod class VS Line weight
depends how hard you like to fish your line class, the rod may snap if you fish over the line class once you use the line to the max, I use 10 kilo line on 15-24kg rods as that suits my style of fishing the line class hard and sloppy rods dont set big hooks well, what do you hope to gain?

why not buy the 10-15kg stick ??? they rate them for a reason....

Just a quick question, Are you looking at buying one of the older model live fibres or one of the new texalium's? A few people have told me that you can go up a few line classes on the new texaliums safely because of the woven aluminium around the blanks.

The line class doesn't matter, what matters is the amount of drag you put on the reel. If you put over say 4kg of drag on that rod you could run into some dramas. However you will probably find live fibres are capable of handling lines outside their specified weight. In most situations the best bet is to just stick to the line class specified on the rod and use 1/3 drag pressure. Hope you enjoy your live fibre they are great rods .

Re: Rod class VS Line weight
the new ones you can fish over the limit but if anything happens you haven't got a leg to stand one! and these new live fibers will cost you $$$$$$
live fibers are just another rod brought out by wilson tackle very good rods desindned to fish with the braid line. as the braid line is rated lower than it's braking strain so is the live fibers
but i still wouldn't over fish it just wait and order a 10-15kg one

Re: Rod class VS Line weight
If I have a rod that I'm not too sure of it's rating or I think is rated wrong(which happens a lot), I thread the line through the runners, tighten the drag up, then attach the line to a set of spring scales and put a working curve in the rod and read off the tension on the scales. Someone might have to do that for you unless you have a slide on the scales that stays where it was pulled to. I times the reading by 3-4 and that is the line class of my rod(roughly).

Re: Rod class VS Line weight
Gotta say that Ive been pushing live fibres past there rated breaking strains for a long time now and no matter how hard I try I have yet to break one. Off the rocks I use a 10ft 8to10kg usually with 30lb braid and have pushed it way beyond its limit with no probs. I once put 50lb braid on it and hooked a big stingray about 5ft across, that stuck itself to the bottom. I hand locked the spool and layed into it, still no probs. A little while ago I was offshore and hooked into what I assume was a huge cod or grouper with 50lb braid on a 7ft 8 to 12kg spin. No matter what I did I could not turn this creatures head, so again I hand locked the spool thinking the hooks would pull or the mono trace would break but the thing just kept swimming away till the friction of the line on the tip of the rod caused the braid to break! This sort of abuse is not recomended, but I am certainly convinced that a Live Fibre will take a sh&% load more than its rated breaking strain.

P.S
I can think of no other rod that I would even consider doing that sort of thing to. I have also landed a 36kg cobia on a 8 to 12kg overhead.
