Re: Strike Rate?
Gotta agree on the crabs, the small black ones are irresistable to huge whiting!!!

Re: Strike Rate?
CZ,
If you find yourself chucking at a certain spot and getting constantly hit by undersized whiting, try chucking a couple of meters away to the side or beyond the hot bite zone. It takes a bit of will power and you have to wait a bit for a bite.
I have picked up better fish by doing this sometimes, as the larger ones seem to sit out off the side of the ravaging hoards. Probably so they can shoot in and steal something when the smaller ones grub up something decent, or they are just a being a bit wary. Don't think they get big by rushing in with the young fools.
Real big whiting seem to be loners.
Good Luck

Re: Strike Rate?
Cap,
Wow...............
It is like trying to find out how long you one will live.
One day I sat next to my friend for a few hours in those few hours I got 9 salmon. He got 0
I let him cast in my spot I let him sit in my spot. We used the same bait same rig same line even the reels are the same. so what would you say aboput that. 9-0 is a big margin in fishing.

Re: Strike Rate?
A little off the topic but a funny one all the same.
Fishing last winter down the south coast of NSW. It was late one night and a group of us had split up into two boats, both boats were within 50m of each other. We would have only been in 4 ft of water, both boats trying our hardest not to make any noise. Not much had happened all night. We were fishing for bream with very light gear and you can hear when someone in the other boat hooks a fish by the sound of there drag. All of a sudden both our drags in our boat started peeling off = double hook up. This proceeded to go on for a good 3/4 an hour, not one after another but we were onto some good fish. We started to hear a few groans coming from the other boat who had yet to hook a fish. My mate and I after 15 or so fish pullled up the anchor as quite as we could and paddled right up close to them without them knowing we were there. Struggling to hold in the laughter, my mate grabs one of our fish and throws it into thier boat - You should of heard these two go off.
Sorry it is a funny story for me - I guess you had to be there.
