    Re: Hell's Gates

Ahh Hells Gates. I have fished it once before and this time of year it should be goin off.

Ur best bet as u said would be livebaiting, the longtails should be in close by now and some mak's aswell, the locals there have been getting onto some good kingies in the wash areas on diving minnows.

The walk there is ok if ur not carrying too much, its about 4-5 km there from the car park which is right up the end of hastings st (maybe ???).

I have never had any luck with the livies there and most people tend to walk them in but im sure there would be some about.

I will be at noosa from the 21st till the 25th so if u wanna go in that time ill be up for it.

    Cheers

As Jeffo said, no you can't get near it by car. It is 4-5 km from either end. I have only fished there a couple of times so don;t know about best weather conditions. I do have a mate who used to fish there a bit. Try slow spinning whole yellowtail pike rigged on gang hooks like a pilchard and hang on - big tailor and trevally.

    Re: Hell's Gates

Hells gates is a top fishing spot, but like the others say it is not for the weak of heart. If you carry out a big fish you WILL know the true meaning of pain. I only fished it a half dozen times or so, best fish landed was a 9 kilo jewie...lost plenty of other gooduns though. If you are unexperienced in rock fishing I dont advise it..its a long way to get help.
