    Yabbies - Maroocydore ?

    Hi,
I normally fish in the Pumicestone passage, Caloundra end and we pump our yabbies at Bells Creek. I want to spend more time fishing the Mooloolaba / Maroochy area. Is there anywhere to pump yabbies up there ? Also has anyone had any success with soft plastics in the Mooloolah river ? I have been fishing near the ski area mainly but only using yabbies. I haven't caught a lot up there only a few keeper bream and whiting, but caught a 50cm Blubberlip late last year. Has anyone caught any Jacks in this area, if so what tackle ?
    Thanks.

we get heaps of bream in the mooloolah river around the trawlers on 3" berkley dropshots in basically any colour. Jacks are usually around this same area but iam yet to catch one on my bream spin gear. Get yabbies i think from Eudlo creek, Zeeke will know more than me give hime a tingle

if you want decent fish from the maroochy river get your self some soldier crabs the best stpot i have found for them is the southern bank between the motorway bridge and chambers island. jam 3 or 4 of those little suckers on a #4 bloodworm longshank with as little lead as possible and fish basically any of the banks between the motor way bridge and the mouth.

if you MUST use yabbies then around goat island is one of the better spots, but yabbies will (generally) get you the smaller whiting.

for the mooloolah river the best spot i have found for yabbies is in the tuckers creek canals and the little canal/bay that is oposite "mooloolah island". iff you want jacks id be getting some live whiting and mullet and heading a few bends PAST the end of the ski area, there is some great fallen timber up there at the moment.

like sean said if you want bream on plastics then the mooloolah river has billions of places to fish them.. ei. trawler morings, bridges and other structure (if you want stikin old bream that is )

Thanks for the tips guys !!! I'll be up this weekend and hope to try some squiggies out, providing the weather is good. I'll add some of the Berkley dropshots to my tacklebox.
    Thanks again.

YABBIES... Croikey, Maroochy River is absolutely Jam Packed with them, once of the largest yabbie banks ive ever seen, about 2 acres of them if ya get out and walk in the water.. Mouth of Eudlo Creek is the best spot to stop, pull up where the Red No Skiiing Sign is if your in a boat, then walk around, you'll see hundreds of holes, your deeper holes will provide better yabbies, in 3 to 4ft of water.. bit deep but you'll get 2 or 4 yabbies a hole if you get out there, just watch the stingrrays.. they love them

    Hi Haz,

I agree with Jeffo, either of the canal entrances hold good numbers of yabbies at low tide. Also the sandbank (usually exposed during very low tides) opposite the canals has some monster yabbies on it.
In the Maroochy, the sandbank in behind Goat holds a few but not as many as in years gone by.
    Hope that helps!

    Jeffo,
Excuse my ignorance but where is the ski area in the Mooloolah River? Must be up near McKenzies bridge is it? When you say, a few bends past there you're refering to the upper reaches running into Mountain Ck or the Parrera channel?
Am keen to get a Jack this year on live herring or mullet so any help or tips are appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.

Thanks again. Obviously I need to try harder because they are definetly there. Or maybe I should persist with my lures and soft plastics and improve my catch rate and forget about the pumping all together!
