i need help with squiggies does someone know the teqneic for trying to catch flathead ???

Hi bronco Boy,
I'm knew to to this style of fishing also. Iwent out on the weekend at noosa and caught 5 trevally, 3 tailor, 1 bream on squidges. My technique was to let the sp sink to the bottom then jig it back to the boat, sometimes pausing to let it sink back to the bottom.I think this syle of fishing would suit for flathead also.

im not so much into flathead fishing but i did by a heap of squidies a couple of months ago to give em ago
i cast out and let it sink to the bottom then wind in with little jerks and pauses in between, to imitate an injured bait fish
ive caught flathead, big bream and smaller predetory fish

I think one of the keys to catching flathead is to make sure that your squidgy stays on the bottom the whole retrieve. Make sure after each jib/jerk you give it time to sink back to the bottom

Just use a bigger size jighead (1/8th oz should do) and a quite aggressive retrieve will work. Squidgie colors for flattys are Bloodworm, Killer Tomato and Gary Glitter or Black/Gold. Lift and drop is another good technique, but flatties just need the SP to go past them and they will inhale it!

I use soft plastics quite a lot for flathead and I would say without a doubt the one single most important tip for using them is to fish em real slow. Let your squidgie sink to the bottom. Then lift your rod. Vary your technique from a slow steady lift to one that might imitate an injured fish. I use these retrieves mostly and I stick with what is working on the day. Really I think its more to do with confidence though.Let it sink back to the bottom and repeat. The trick is to take your time. After you have some success your confidence will soar and with it your catch rate. Hope this helps.

Hi Bronco Boy

If your fishing out of a boat use the colours mentioned above and the 2nd biggest white wrigglers just find a nice looking area with a nice slowish drift just jig off the bottom and leave it until you feel tesion come back on the line and you should be able to feel the lure moving across the bottom and jig it up again and then let it sit keep doing that until you come up tight. Once you get a feel for it you will be able to see when a fish hits the lure buy a twitch in the line a its dropping. The other beauty of this technique is that you can drift a bait at the same time so you will know if there are fish around you are missing and change lure, jigging tech etc, but you will be amazed at how many flatty you catch on the squidgies compared to the bait.
