Amberjack or Samson?

My first thought when I caught it was amberjack but I had never seen one in the flesh before so I consulted Grants Guide To Fishes which I am sure showed it closer to looking like a Samson fish. I know a lot of reports say they catch Amberjack in my area so I am leaning the other way again now.

id call it for samson, them and ajs are pretty ordinary to eat by comparison to the reefies.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I haven't eaten it yet. The fillets were a darker colour so they don't look as though they would be too good.

Judging by the pics i saw today of some 100 lbs ambo's id call that for a sampson

I would definitely call that a Yellow Tail Brown Striped Samberjack...
Only fish i know that u need to use a gaff sized hook.
Must have needed one HUGE bait !
