    But in the case of warm currents, they could well travel along in a wall, i dont know the correct term but a diagonal thermocline. The east coast current is a pritty crazy thing.

    My undersrtanding of the waverider buoys is that they do not do constant sampling as they would collect too much data. Instead they do a sampling period every hour. So while the graph looks like a continuous line, in fact there are large breaks where no data was collected.

    It is more likely, in this case, that the temprature rose gradually over an hour period in between samples, rather than an immediate spike in tempurature.
