    LBG Around Brisbane?

    Hi,

I'm a very keen LBG fisho from WA and I'll be working in Brisbane during June and the begining of July.

I was wondering if there were any decent LBG spots within a couple of hours drive of the city and if so what species are generally found there.

I'm trying to find out as much as I can so that I can bring the right gear with me. (And hopefully catch some fish).

I don't mind a bit of a climb in and out and am happy to sleep on the rocks if that's what's required.

    Thanks very much in advance.

    Hi Andy,
Seeing no-one else has replied to your post, I've decided to offer you what little I know.
Up on the Sunshine coast, about 1.5 hours drive north of Brisbane is Noosa National Park. There's a rocky outcrop known as "Hell's Gates" which is a well know rock fishing spot. I believe some of the ledges are used for LBG fishing but not entirely sure. It's a bit of a hike (3.5km or so) from the entrance/car park to the spot.
The rocks produce fish but can be unsafe so check conditions or see if you can find out more info.
Sorry mate, it's the best I can suggest.
    Good luck, [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

    Herby,

    Thanks for the reply,

I'll punch "Hell's Gate" into google and see what comes up.

I'm sure that there must be some good spots around the Brisbane area.

    Cheers

    Hi Andy,
Not really, we don't have many rocks, mostly white Sandy Beaches.. or mud flats inside Morton Bay.
You could try the Southport Seaway or the Rock groins at Mooloolaba.
If you watch this site when you get here, in the Going Fishing section you may be able to score a spot in a boat.

Best I could suggest close to Brisbane would be the Sandgate Jetty for sharks. If there is a SW blowing, then you might be lucky and get some longtail tuna close to the beach at Bribie. Otherwise, the best would be Hells Gates at Noosa, but it is a long drive from Brisbane and then a long hike.

As Seahunt said, you might be able to get a ride in a boat if you are flexible. Stay tuned and post again when you get to Brisbane.

    Re: LBG Around Brisbane?

As mentioned hells gates and the fairy pools in noosa national park are top spots but can be dangerous at times, like most lbg ledges (i came very close to be swept out to sea a few years back) another great spot that is closer but somewhat more difficult to get to and thus often over looked is North Stradbroke Island. The rocky headlands up at Point Lookout can hold all sort of large critters at times. Even the jetty at amity point can produce some big fish. I have seen some mega longtail caught there. Then as a last resort theres the gold coast seaway which gets flogged to death but with a live bait you can still catch a decent fish...every now and then

    anyways hope that helped

    cheers,

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

I'll be landing in Brisbane Monday morning and will take your advice and post in the "Going Fishing" section. I'll also bring a light boat outfit in case I'm lucky enough to get taken out.

Look forward to meeting some of you soon.

    Good one Andy.
Drop me a PM when you get here and I might be able to sqeeze you in on a boys trip offshore aswell.
I forgot about North Straddie It's a beautiful spot and the rocks at Pt Lookout produce some good fish and as someone else posted, even the amity jetty produces some nice tuna and the odd shark. Definately worth a trip, even if it is just to go whale watching!
