Ha Ha dont know if id use jelly fish for bait..but what ever works!!

Definatly a Banded Scat. Yes, they are related to bat fish, but hardly chinaman fish (lutjanidae)! Also look similar to some species of sergent major (damselfish) and probably to a lesser extent, luderick.

Just adding to the "what not to eat discussion", i have (dont tell anyone this) eaton my bait on occasions, ie, when the mackeral weren't biting i had smoked scad for dinner! Addmittedly, was poor quality and heaps of bones.

I recently caught about a dozen leaping bonito, and returned most to the water unharmed. I did make one exception, i kept 2 to put on the table. The response from 3 people was "very good eating" but a lot has to do with the preparation and stowage of any this and any fish, including the humble SCAT
