Re: Noosa fishing options
Hi last_cast,
We all say that don't we, never is though.
About Noosa , firstly let me say "you lucky bastard". I wish I was living up there.
Heaps of variety , as for offshore reefs I would not go too far out in your boat unless it was fairly flat, remember you have to get back across the bar and last time I was up there the mouth of the river was mostly sand. Don't discount the river itself, it goes for miles with deep holes and two large lakes, plenty of exploring to do. They catch Flathead, Bream, Trevally, Mangrove Jacks, Jew, Mudcrabs and heaps of other stuff in it.. Have a look here http://www.fishingnoosa.com.au/ this site is excellent and has reports updated weekly. Visit the guys at Davo's bait and Tackle for all the local info.

Try trolling the 1st lake channel, out going tide 1/2 to low tide, using small lures ie;micro mullet doing 2-4knts. This should get you a few flatties has worked for me on a number of occasions.
I will be up that way late August. hopefully

Re: Noosa fishing options
thanks guys , I have been in the noosa river a couple of times and have allways managed a feed , it really is a great river system so much variety like you said, I also cant wait to fish the upper reaches for bass and tarpon ect... apparently there is no agriculture runoff in the catchment area of the river, nice to know the ocasional fish I eat from there is not full of some unknown chemicals.

Even if it was full of unknown chemicals , you would probably die of something else first. It's not something I worry about , after eating fish from the Brisbane river.

Re: Noosa fishing options
hey i agree u are so lucky to move to noosa. i crossed the noosa bar today on a charter it was very shallow ont he way in we hit the bottom multiple times on our run in. jew shoal, halls reef and little halls all produce good pelagics and u get sweetlip and squire at them also. if you have a good day you can try sunshine reef but make sure it is a good day. at night you can get good trevally around the back of the sound on unweighted live prawns. and he numerous sand banks produce good whiting. around thsi time of year the frying pan area will produce very good sized bream. up around the top of lake cooribah you can get some very good whiting. if your lucky you may still find a few mackeral still in laguna bay if you have the time to spare we got 1 out at massouds reef today. i suggest going in and talking to the guys at davos bait and tackle shop they know the area well and will give you some great advice. it is located near maccas and red rooster.
good luck up at noosa

What about the Mooloolaba bar. It is supposed to be fairly safe isn't it ? Are there any close-in reefs out of there ?

Re: Noosa fishing options
Yeah Mooloolaba is fine , could hardly call it a bar. If they are not breaking accross the front of the rock groin when you are going out, you're fine, if they are , turn back.
Few reefs fairly close in, Inner Geerings about 3nm out is probably the closest. 4.5 metre tinnie is probably big enough.

Re: Noosa fishing options
Hi,
I fished Noosa last weekend from the sure. I was only fly fishing and didn't have much luck in the river. I went onto one of the rock walls on the main beach and landed some dart and yellowtail pike.
I saw alot of Bream getting around in shallow water but they all looked like something had taken a bite out of them and then left them so they were swimming around looking like they were waiting to die. I could even nudge them with my feet.
