Re: pilchard on gangs for snapper
Just recently I have started using 2 x 5/0 7766's through the top of a pillie and dont seem to drop many fish. Normally floatlining.

Re: pilchard on gangs for snapper
Webby, your diagram of the 2 hook snood brings me back to my younger days growing up in Melbourne - snapper fishing in Port Phillip Bay to the (then) sweet sounds of Rexies radio fishing show. This is a rig I learned around 15 - 20 years back from Rex H and have used this ever since - good hookup rates and good streamlined bait presentation. Easier to handle, and more natural look than ganged hooks. I've experimented with this with whole gar (small only) but prefere ganging these still.
Any other ideas welcome!

Re: pilchard on gangs for snapper
Just reguarding having the pillie head first or tail first.I use a 3hook swivel gang for floating on one rod (headfirst) and a 2hook swivel gang on the other(tail first with a half hitch around tail), and over the last few weeks I have been paying particular attention to this, and still can't say which way catches more fish. Been lucky enougfh to get a few Squire -Snapper on the last few outings and the ratio seems to be about even.Just going by what hook on the gang hooked the fish.
