How to tie braid to spool?

Hi,

I just bought myself a new outfit to try some soft plastics. Daiwa Samurai 3i and 6lb Fireline. 125yds of fireline should just fit perfect onto the spool, only trouble is, how do you tie braid to the spool?

I think it would be more likely to slip so is there a correct way?

undershot the braid with some mono.. so wack some mono on the spool first, i also reckon you'll find, despite being 125yrds of fireline, it doesnt fill up a spool properly, so a few spins of the handle with some mono, then connect your fireline and u should be fine, if uve got too much mono. pull out the spare spool, loosely wind the fireline onto that, shorten the mono a lil bit and try again till your happy with how much the fireline fills up ur spool

The Daiwa is rated to fill only 100yds of 6lb, so 125yds of braid should just fit I think. So not recommended to tie braid direct to spool?

Whats the best way to connect mono to the spool anyway..

tim is right, i just bought 125yds of 6lb fireline, it has a 2lb mono diameter. I Put on about 4yds of 6lb mono on first and then the whole spool of fireline fit on just right, this was on a shimano tx 2000 so there spools are very similar. Check out this site - http://www.steelheader.net/knots/arbor_knot.htm , then use a double uni knot - http://www.steelheader.net/knots/double_uni.htm - to tie the mono to the fireline. When you wind on the fireline make sure it isnt wound on loose as it will tangle. Should work a treat

yep its best to put some mono as backing, enough to mainly first cover the spool so u can't see metal on the spool this will help it not to slip, then join the mono to the fireline either with double uni knot or albright knot, it all should fit on fine because fireline has a thinner diametar

Yep, I put some 6lb mono on first, then joined the fireline, tops up to the lip of the spool perfectly.

any simple low profile knot - a small piece of sticky tape even - if you get to the point of pressure on that connection - its all over anyway on 6lb - there will be 125yrds of dental floss floating around looking for a prop.
