Getting to Moreton from the Northside

What is everybody's favourite spot to leave from on the northside to get to Bribie? I have one mate who always leaves from Bribie cos its the closest, but another mate always leaves from Scarborough 'cos he says it get's too lumpy nearer Bribie and at the top of the bay.

But my brother in law always leaves from Shorncliffe. Anyone have any experience from Nudgee?

    What do you reckon?

Nudgee is OK. Good ramp and has a pontoon and a small beach area but I would not leave a car and trailer there at night for too long. There is another ramp just off the Hornibrook Bridge @ Clontarf that looks OK as well but it does get busy with all the PWCs. Also have a gander at Cabbage Tree Creek. It's about time some money was spent on that ramp facility at Scarborough.

    Cheers

    Thanks Greg

What I was specifically wondering was it looks at though there are heaps of sandbanks between Bribie & Moreton which make getting across on low tide difficult.

I guess Scarborough of Clontarf are the next closest, and was wondering if anyone had specific perferences from where they left.

I kow all the boat ramps pretty well, but it's more the trip across I asking about.

I leaving from Nudgee/Clontarf/margate or the river head strait to the sth west spit beacon wchich marks the start of the Pearl channel, its then a strait run up the channel and the deepest water to top of moreton, or you could head strait across to the red beacons M8 off middle banks and then run up the shipping channel, its longer, but its gets you there.
The trip from bribie across past gilligans you run into the mesy whirl pool just of gillians and it does get frairly choopy at times, as all the currents seems to converge a this point.
It all depends on the size of your rig, and which route you feel comfortable with.

Thanks Webby. I would have thought that heading straight to the M8 would be shorter than heading to SW spit beacon first. I was looking at doing a run almost a straight line from Nudgee to Tangalooma - the charts show there are no shallow banks to watch out for. I'll let you know how I get on.

A straight line from nudgee to tangas you wouldnt hit anything, except maybe a beacon if in that straight line, there are no banks that get shallow enough to worry you.
Even at night theres new blue leads lights a wee bit sth of tangas you could aim for.
