Gold Coast Offshore Livies
Can someone provide me with some tips for locations and techniques for acquiring livies near to the close reefs out of the GC Seaway. I have tried the Scottish Prince twice with no luck and i have had no luck getting any action from schools found on the sounder.

You'll find all the charter boats here loading up. There may by no means be bait at this very location. But a bit of driving round within 300m of it will guarantee you picking up a bait ball. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Look for the collection of boats jut a little wasy straight out from the Seaway. At dawn/early morning they will all be there loading up on livies before heading out for the day. Just use the good old bait jig that you can get from any tackle shop for about $2.00.

Scottish Prince, the hole off north wall of seaway, 12 fath and that GPS mark are good spots to try. Use bait jig (size #8-6 hooks) and try baiting every 2nd hook with sm piece peeled prawn if fish to picky, use a heavy lead on bottom and vary rod action until find what works that day. When one jumps on try keep jigging rod as the hooked fish creates excitment and draws more on the attack. Try to handle fish as little as possible(especially slimeys).
Good luck.

Oh forgot. Check sounder and drop to correct depth where bait is located. If no luck down there try jigging surface(so at highest point you can just see your top hook)
