    Cheap SP's

Has anyone tried used the cheaper (no brand) SP's available from some online shops and on ebay? Are they any good or is there something particular about the name brand ones (ecogear, atomic, berkley) that make them work better?

my opinion - FWIW - some plastics definitely are better than others. Quality of the plastic, action in the water, colours and scent. Makes alot of difference what weight jig head you use and how well you rig it too. Doesn't necessarily mean that the more expensive ones are the best.

With lure fishing in general, you have to have confidence in what you are using. If you don't, you are always chopping and changing. INHO, you are better off spending a bit more money and making sure than what you buy is the real deal and then giving it a proper workout before you change lures.

    Joe

I got some cheap Wilson 3cm grubs (amber colour with gold specks) from a department store (25 grubs for around $5) and have used them the last couple of weeks and caught a few pike and a couple of small flatties on them. I had only ever caught 3 fish on SP's prior to trying the Wilson grubs so I am by no means an expert, therefore the plastics must be alright.

    Hey joeT.

Big differences in SP's I think. Colours and Brands. Squidgies work well. Bloodworm size #3 for bream. Pretty much anything for flathead. Kmart often has these quite cheap if you keep an eye on the sales. The Squidgie jigheads arent bad either. Fish as light as the conditions will allow.
I have just recently started using Berkley powerbaits as well. Best of these is the 3 inch powerminnow in Pumpkinseed or Pearl olive. These are a lot bigger than most plastics but the bream seem to hit the head most times anyhow and I am getting consistantly bigger fish. Flathead are keen on them to if you get them down to them.
You will catch fish on the others, but I am sure it won't be as many.
If you get into the yellow tail move, otherwise it can be an expensive exercise.
    Hope this helps.

    Cheers, Brad.

I have also recently started using the Berkley 3" powerbaits - drop shots - and have done very well on them.

I use the cheap SP's (grubs) from Ebay (2nd's so they say) while my mate uses Berkley stuff & side by side there's no difference in catch rate, I'm still a fan of the origional squidgies though...........the cheap range is limited in colours I find.

The better quality products are more tear resistant and impregnated with scent etc. Depending on what type of fish you are chasing, it wouldnt really matter....flatty will eat just about anything

    Re: Cheap SP's

i bought some SP's from one of those $2 shops once and gotr about 6 different types in a box. For $2 i though why not. The was one in the box that looked exactly like a little flattie, it was yellow in colour and about 2" long. Boy did it work a treat. caught several 50 + flatties with it. Well worth the money.
unforunately I cannot find them again.
