I just found this forum and thought it may be a good place to start in planning my fishing trip to Australia. I am from British Columbia, Canada, and work as a flyfishing guide, guiding salmon, steelhead and trout.
I am not familiar with the oppurtunities in Australia for flyfishing, but have heard about the New Caledonia bonefish and trevally fishing. This I am very curious about, but haven't found any 'real' information on it, except sites selling trips there. It looks great though, so the main question, can I get there without spending $5000 - $6000 on a resort package? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Also I will be on the Gold Coast, and am curious if there is any good opportunites there and if anyone can give me some local knowledge on what is best on a limited time schedule.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, it would be great if there is someone out there that has some good info regard these for a travelling flyrodder. And, if anyone is coming this way in the world please to hesitate to email me. Thanks!
I recently put up a post requesting information on salmon and sturgeon fishing in the BC area as I am planning to visit next year.
I wonder if you could give any info on lodges, guides, accomodation etc.
Re your request I suggest you repeat your post in the fly fishing area as there are heaps of salt water enthusiasts in this area many of whom would be keen to take you out if only to learn some new techniques.
Hi Fishhardbc
Sure you will get the help ya require, this site is brisbane based.
welcome to the site and please pass on pics and stories of you local fishing scene as most of us will be interested.
The only problem we have with overseas tourists is getting them to go home again LOL
cheers

Blaze, if there was one place that could tempt me away from Aus it would be British Columbia. Stunning is an understatement. Not sure about the cold and wet though, but still WOW. My brother spent a year there at Fort Langley (or something like that) miliking cows. He'd go skiing every weekend and then ring home to let us know about it >.
(More importantly home of the Vancouver Canucks hockey team. )
fishhardbc: blaze is right, post up its always great to see the stuff from other parts of the world. Can't help you on New Caledonia, but locally try Fly fishing for Blue Fin tuna just off the Gold Coast or dable around some of the local rivers for bass.
